Samba Do Rio
Samba is the most internationally recognized music and dance form from Brazil. Samba is a patchwork of many cultural elements pieced together from Africa, Europe, and the Indigenous people of Brazil.
Developed in the black neighborhoods of Rio, by people of African descent, Samba spread to all levels of Brazilian society. Despite adversity and prejudice, samba came to represent many aspects of the Brazilian cultural identity. Carnaval is celebrated preceding Lent.
The Escolas De Samba (Samba Schools) play an extremely important part in organizing and implementing the music, dance, costumes, and floats for the parade. Rio De Janeiro is famous for it’s samba schools, featuring up to 4000 musicians, dancers, and participants.
